biography
Ann Moeller (formerly Ann Moeller Steverson)
is a Huntsville, Alabama–based fine artist and public artist known for luminous figurative paintings and ambitious work created for shared spaces. Her practice moves between the intimacy of oil painting and the scale of murals and sculpture, returning again and again to beauty, human possibility, and the stories a person or place deserves to carry forward.
Her work reaches from the sea floor to the Moon. One Tree, a monumental concrete sculpture, rests 58 feet beneath the Gulf in the Underwater Museum of Art off Grayton Beach, Florida, and her painting Shelter is archived on the lunar surface through the Lunar Codex. Closer to home, her public work includes Nexus: A Harmony of Rivers, a 16-foot kinetic sculpture in Avondale, Arizona; The Spark, a monumental oil painting for Huntsville City Hall; Together We Rise, a 60-foot mural in Huntsville; and Lift, a bronze sculpture in Mayfair Park.
Ann is a recipient of the Bold Brush Award, an honor an artist can win only once in a lifetime. Her work has also been recognized by the Art Renewal Center, the Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, and the National Oil & Acrylic Painters' Society. She is also an inventor. She created Venus Copper Panels, the first copper composite material (CCM) artist panel, now produced as Artefex Copper Panels.
A native of Madison, Alabama, Ann earned a B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and an M.A. in Art Education from Alabama A&M University. She taught public-school art for five years and in 2015 co-founded Protégé Atelier, which brought master artist workshops to Huntsville. Today she paints, teaches, and welcomes visitors at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment in Studio 2069.
